Accurate Ak 47 - In the February issue of the newsletter, I mentioned some of the "big debates" going on in the firearms and tactical industry. These discussion topics never fail to provide lively debate with opinions from both sides of the spectrum. Back in February, we discussed the decades-old "9MM vs. 45ACP" debate. This month we're going to tackle another hot topic about the AK-47 and AR-15. Which gun is the best? Are there any real heroes? Again I will discuss the pros and cons of each side and then give my opinion on the matter. So let's start this discussion!
The AK-47 has been around since 1949 and is the official rifle of the Soviet Armed Forces, designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. This rifle is a long stroke gas piston chambered in 7.62x39mm that has a lot of glory. It is said to be able to work in the toughest conditions. It can be covered with mud, sand, dirt or snow and then lifted and still perform well. The AK-47 is also very easy to operate. They say, "It's easy to take a kid out in the field and operate on him, he can do it," which is kind of true considering that countries at war have AK- 47 have been accepted. The same goes for someone who takes the time to practice with an AK-47. Accuracy depends in part on the skill of the person using the firearm. Modern AK-47s can be modified in many ways to give the user an added advantage.

Now let's talk about the AR-15. The AR-15/M16 has been the subject of controversy since its inception. Eugene Stoner designed the AR-15 in the 1950s and it was introduced in 1959. All the ARs I have owned or built have withstood the abuse of training and never let me down. I can hit long range targets with accuracy. If given the opportunity to practice more with a quality AK-47, I feel I can appreciate it as much as I do my AR-15s. But for now, in my opinion, the AR-15 wins the debate. The thread pitch on the PSA AK-47 GF3 is M14 x 1LH and I lovingly put a Wolverine PBS-1 on my GF3 and love it.
The standard slanted break gives you a classic look, but doesn't have the huge advantage of reducing flare or muzzle lift.

The FSB is located near the end of the barrel, close to the muzzle, and the gas block is a few inches behind the FSB.
The front sight on the GF3 worked very well, the sights are iron, so don't expect too much from the old iron sights.
